Frequently asked

Where does the content come from?

From the servers and services you connect. 4789 does not host, aggregate, index, or distribute media content. It is a player and library manager. See the Terms of Use.

What is an add-on, and how do I add one?

An add-on is any service that speaks the open 4789 Add-on Protocol, a small manifest-based JSON API. You add one by pasting its manifest URL into the app. Start with Getting started.

Do you collect my data?

No ads, no trackers, no analytics. Your library and credentials stay on your device and in the Keychain. Read the full Privacy Policy.

Playback fails or a service is empty. What do I check?

  • Confirm the service is reachable from your network and its manifest URL is correct.
  • Re-enter any key or token for that service (they live in the Keychain and can expire).
  • Try another title: an empty catalogue usually means the connected service returned nothing.
  • See Best practices for common service-side pitfalls.

Can it cast to my TV?

Yes. Send a local file or what you're watching to Kodi or a Chromecast on your network. Each screen is one tap away.

I build services. Where are the developer docs?

Full protocol reference, examples, and a hosting guide are in the Add-on Protocol documentation.

Metadata (posters, ratings) looks wrong or missing.

Catalogue metadata comes from public APIs and from the services you connect. Occasional gaps or mismatches originate upstream. If a specific title is consistently wrong, email us the title and we'll look into the matching logic.

When does 4789 launch, and what does it cost?

It's coming to the App Store soon; you'll be able to try it for free, with full pricing closer to launch. Leave your email and we'll tell you the moment it's live.
